When you use it, you don't just rub a little on like lotion, you goop it on, THICK, all over and around the burn. Leave it on and let it evaporate (it can take an hour). It totally works to stop the pain, and if you get it on quick enough, I think it reduces the severity of the burn. All my kids know right where it is and when someone gets burned (usually on the stove), they yell "BURN JEL!!!", put their injury under cold water, and someone brings them this relief-in-a-bottle within seconds. (Dry your injury before applying it.)
Sometimes Wal-mart carries it by their bandaids, but not always. I think it is cheaper at Wal-mart than Amazon. Walgreens usually has it but it is more expensive than Amazon.
