Chopper

I love salads and salsa.
I especially love lots of toppings in my salad and lots of chunks in my salsa.
What I do not love is spending my free time chopping.

As you know, Michael and I own just about every "As Seen on TV" gadget.  Some arrived by mail and we didn't even know we'd ordered them.  Needless to say, I've tried just about every chopper out there.  I had so many choppers, I was even giving them away as wedding and Christmas gifts.  Sorry everyone.

A year or so ago, I was at a yard sale of an old woman that passed away.  Her family was selling her unopened items.  I happened upon this chopper and thought, "Hmm.  Haven't tried this one!"

This has been a lifesaver for me!  It actually works!  And when I take stuff to parties people always compliment me on how nice of a job I did chopping. :).  I've gotten rid of all my other choppers.

Cleaning after isn't as hard as it looks.  It comes with a tool to scrub in between the cracks which is really helpful and the sink sprayer can get it out as well.  Just don't wait days to do the dishes... ;)

The only real downside is you do have to cut like a tomato in half first, before putting it through the chopper.  You can't just throw a whole tomato in.  But, I don't know of any choppers that you can do that with...

  1. Oh man, I've tried a thousand chopping tools too. And I've never found a dicer that I like. I'm going to try this one out! Oh dear, let the shopping begin. All these suggestions on the blog are great!! As a side note, if you don't need diced, have you ever tried the Alaska cutlery chopping block? It's awesome. Stew was the first to buy one, but I think several of us in the family have one. I love it for chopping baby food cuz I can decide exactly the chunkiness I want (perfect for the stage when they are ready to move past purees).

  2. Being the sister most prone to accidents, I like this option much better than the mandolin slicer. I don't know how many fingertips I've lost in that scary contraption.

Does the smaller grid piece chop things like garlic?

  3. So, Kim just gave this to mom for her birthday. I had to borrow it and try it out! I used it to make corn and black bean salad. Since that's a family recipe we all know, you can understand when I say I used it to chop everything, and it was awesome. It did not disappoint. It chopped jalapeno, red onion, red pepper, tomato, and even cubed the cheese. The salad looks beautiful and uniform. I would say it cut my prep time in half for that salad. Only tip - put everything "skin" side up. It's a much cleaner chop that way. :) Good gadget kimmo! When I have a house again, I'm going to get myself one. Until then, I'll borrow moms. haha.
